2026 price increase

What does it actually cost The Station on 6th to serve a meal?

The cost per meal is typically around $16 to $18 to plate, serve, or deliver a meal, including Meals on Wheels. This includes the cost of food, facility and staffing overhead, and the safety, delivery, and service costs needed to provide high-quality, nutritious meals for our aging population.

How is The Station on 6th funded?

The Station on 6th is funded in part by reimbursements from NACOG. NACOG reimburses $9 for dining room meals and $10 for delivered meals. However, NACOG reimbursements cover only about 30% of the meals we serve or deliver because the contract is capped at a specific amount each month.

Our municipalities contribute a small portion of support. All remaining funds are generated through donations and fundraising. These funds subsidize the cost of meals and help keep the price minimal for our clients.

When was the last time lunch prices increased?

Prices increased in 2022 from $5 to $6 for people over 60, and from $9 to $10 for people under 60.

Is $7.00, or $11.00 for people under 60, a good deal for lunch?

Yes. The national average for a standard fast-food combo meal, including an entree, side, and drink, is between $11.56 and $15.00. These meals are also often high in sodium and empty calories.

The average plated lunch at a restaurant in the Verde Valley, including Camp Verde and Cottonwood, is between $14 and $28, plus tax and tip.

Am I getting a nutritious meal?

Yes. The Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG) Area Agency on Aging provides nutritional assistance and dietary guidelines aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. These guidelines prioritize high-quality proteins, whole grains, and limited sodium.

All meals served are reviewed and approved by a licensed nutritionist employed by NACOG.

Do I have to sign up for NACOG to receive a meal?

No. You do not have to sign up for NACOG to receive a meal. If you do not sign up, or if you are not eligible based on your age, you can pay the full non-subsidized price of $11, whether you dine in or receive Meals on Wheels.

Monthly payments are now welcome for pre-planning purposes.
